Residents of several colonies in the Capital were forced to wade
through floodwater to move around on Saturday after hours of rain, even
as traffic on major roads slowed down.
People of areas such as Green Park, Jhandewalan, Munirka, Nangloi and Mayur Vihar complained of overflowing sewage. Vikas Aggarwal of Nangloi said dirty, smelly water had accumulated below the Metro station with the drains unable to flush out water.
People of areas such as Green Park, Jhandewalan, Munirka, Nangloi and Mayur Vihar complained of overflowing sewage. Vikas Aggarwal of Nangloi said dirty, smelly water had accumulated below the Metro station with the drains unable to flush out water.
"Even at 8pm, the road is flooded with dirty water because the drains
have not been repaired for years. It is the same story every monsoon,"
he said.
Five reports of wall collapses were also received at the control room but there was no loss of lives or property.
Civic agencies once again blamed the flooding on the aged drainage
system that has seemingly become incapable of carrying rain water.
Between 8.30am and 5.30pm, the city received 24.6 mm of rain.
Flooding slowed down the traffic near Indraprastha College for Women, Chandgi Ram Akhara, Kela Ghat, Mori Gate, Tirth Ram Hospital, Defence Colony flyover, Pulpahladpur and Nizamuddin Khatta.
The stretches between Ashram flyover and Maharani Bagh and Ashram and Hari Nagar were also waterlogged.
Traffic was affected between the Moolchand and the Lajpat Nagar Metro stations, on Ring Road, at the Andrews Ganj Chowk and on the Moolchand flyover. (c'est chez moi!!! heureusement j'y ai échappé...)
